Surround yourself with nature: holidays at Château de Montcaud

Having spent another long winter often cooped up inside, unable to travel and escape, the desire to go out and be outside is growing in most of us. And as the days are getting longer and sunnier, outside activities are no longer necessarily linked to functional clothing and a limited time slot. Lucky for us, we are surrounded by nature! Below you will find just a selection of experiences to be lived 100% outdoors – all within easy reach of your home base at Château de Montcaud.

Get your fill of green at Château de Montcaud
No need to go far, everything starts directly in the park surrounding the chateau, within its very own estate walls. On-site, enjoy 5 hectares of gardens and parklands, and a forest of more than 140 different types of trees. Take a walk along the paths, listen to the sound of the wind in the leaves and have fun identifying the songs of the birds. Stroll through the gardens and smell the air: more than 40 varieties of roses fill the air with their delicate scents and offer a colourful spectacle. The historic grotto, not far from our majestic century-old cedar tree, offers a beautiful view of the chateau and provides a little coolness, always welcome in the summer heat.

Lounge and leap
Our swimming pool is one of the best places to spend your afternoons: in the heart of our green oasis, it is 17 meters long and offers a beautiful view of the chateau and the park. Some of the sunbeds are placed on the lawn, leaving enough space for privacy. Everyone is free to bask in the sun, doze in the shade of a tree, or get back in shape by doing a few laps. And for the little ones (or those who just want to cool off), a part of the pool allows you to splash around in shallow water.

Family fun
We have outdoor games available, which will delight young and old alike: petanque, Möllky skittles, giant Mikado and croquet, perfect for a moment of conviviality. Sportier types will tackle a ping-pong or tennis tournament, or go for a jog on our running track.

Down the river we go
Château de Montcaud is ideally located near sublime rivers and gorges, perfect for an afternoon (or a day) on the water. Choose a peaceful discovery ride or a more athletic raid, there is something for everyone. Whether it’s discovering the beautiful landscapes of the Cèze valley, in the spectacular Gorges de l’Ardèche or on the Gardon river with an arrival under the arches of the majestic Pont du Gard, one thing is sure: you will be amazed!

Reconnecting with nature
Hiking trails are marked in abundance. Leave from the chateau or venture out to walk through vineyards, fragrant garrigues and state forests. Some trails reveal sublime panoramas of the Rhone valley and Mont Ventoux, while others will make you discover typical hamlets and some of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Discover monuments or historical vestiges, such as on a walk around the Oppidium of the Camp de César, on one of the numerous paths surrounding the Chartreuse de Valbonne or the on the Dolmen path in Barjac.

Move over, Mont Ventoux
Château de Montcaud lies in-midst a perfect cycling region: routes in the vicinity are still relatively unknown, which means there are no cycling masses and few cars, and there are routes to suit all levels, which can easily be discovered individually. From open scenery, hills to mountains, canals to gorges, the geographic setting is spectacular, and not surprisingly, home to several UNESCO world heritage sites.

Provence from the sky
The most courageous, thrill-seeking adventurers can also enjoy sublime views from the sky: parachute jumping, helicopter or paragliding flights will offer you panoramic views and will make you discover the landscapes of the Cevennes, the Rhone Valley and the Cèze, and possibly even the Camargue.
